REACTION // ARNAUTOVIC ELATED FOR FANS AFTER VICTORY OVER CHELSEA

Marko Arnautovic says the hard-work approach of David Moyes will help to lift West Ham after beating Premier League champions Chelsea at London Stadium on Saturday.

The summer signing grabbed his first goal for the Hammers in their derby win, handing manager Moyes his first victory at the Hammers helm and ensuring rapturous celebrations from the stands on the final whistle.

“It felt great for our fans because they deserve it and for us, as a team, it’s amazing to get a win,” said Arnautovic.

“For myself, I scored and we beat them, so it’s an amazing feeling that I cannot describe. I don’t want this to be my last goal. I want it to be the first one of many.

“I just wanted to celebrate with them and I want to give back to them because, when the fans get behind us and cheer us for 90 minutes, they are unbeatable, I think. Nobody can beat them. When they are behind us and we are on the front foot, nobody can beat us as well.

“We’re going to enjoy this today, but when we wake up we’re going to concentrate on Arsenal, because we have three important games this week, not just one.”

The victory was the West Ham’s first in the league since beating Swansea, but the Hammers are enjoying the early hints of resurgence under David Moyes. After drawing with Leicester City in his first home match as West Ham manager, his side were then unlucky not to claim a point at the Etihad Stadium. Even with that improvement, Saturday’s victory was a true statement for these new-look Hammers.

Arnautovic is one player who looks to be flourishing, but will be further tested with the visit of Arsenal to London Stadium on Wednesday evening.

“Every day, we need to work hard under this coach and there are no excuses,” said Arnautovic.

“Everybody needs to do his main job and do two or three more jobs on the pitch. We are working hard as a team and I think you could see this in the game and if we continue to do that, we will be hard to beat.

“We need to keep up the level. Now is a busy month and we’re going to have a game every three days so it’s going to be hard, so we need to recover well and go again on Wednesday.

“I’m really tired, I’m going to go to sleep tonight and then tomorrow I’m going to work hard to make sure I’m ready for Wednesday!”
