PREVIEW // BUOYANT HAMMERS AIM TO CONTINUE FINE FORM AGAINST NEWCASTLE

By Daniel McInally

West Ham will look to maintain their unbeaten run into the Christmas period with victory over Newcastle United at London Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Hammers have been rejuvenated of late, taking seven points from the last possible nine and defeating Champions Chelsea and Stoke, and were unlucky not to beat Arsenal at London Stadium.

“We go into the game with big confidence. We want to show our supporters how we played at Stoke City,” said manager David Moyes

“We’ve had a good week in Premier League points, and there’s a lot of things we’re doing right.

“I would like to see us climb the table and in the coming weeks we might do that.”

Captain Mark Noble has been ruled out of the match due to a hamstring injury, however the boss is hoping that Michail Antonio will be available to face Newcastle.

“There is a doubt over Michael Antonio due to a calf injury, he didn’t play in the week,” said Moyes.

“Cheikhou Kouyate has trained this week and we’re hoping he will be available, but Mark Noble won’t be available for the weekend. He’s got a hamstring injury.”

Goalkeeper Adrian is hoping to continue to repay the managers faith in him and ensure a clean sheet when he takes on the Magpies this Saturday. West Ham have kept three consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League, and the Spaniard has been a key figure in this.

“I knew that if I worked hard, this opportunity would come” he said.

Adrian has huge admiration for the Newcastle manager Benitez and is looking forward to going against him this weekend.

“I have known Rafa for a long time. He is a very good manager and did a very good job at Newcastle when they were in the second tier,” added Adrian.

“They started the season very well but have not got good results in their last few games, so it is a good time for us to give our maximum in our own stadium. I wish him (Benitez) the best, but not on Saturday.”
