ST JOHN VOLUNTEER MANAGER RECOGNISED FOR STADIUM WORK

Matt Atkinson, London Stadium’s dedicated District Events Support Officer for St John Ambulance, has been named their ‘Volunteer Manager of the Year’.

Atkinson’s role involves the planning and co-ordinating of St John Ambulance’s activities at London Stadium for all events, from Premier League football matches to our summer concert series.

Outside of his work at the venue, Atkinson is also the Unit Manager for East Ham Young People’s Services Unit, providing valuable support and experience to develop volunteers with St John’s Ambulance.

“There are so many people, with and without leadership responsibilities, in St John who I respect and admire, so to be singled out amongst them for this award has been amazing,” said Atkinson.

“I’m so grateful to the East Ham young people and youth leader team, and the fantastic team at London Stadium, all of which make my management roles such a pleasure and motivate me to do my best for them.”

Matt’s contribution has been lauded by St John Ambulance, celebrating the scale of his responsibilities, his work ethic and ability to gain respect from peers at London Stadium.

“Matt’s dedication to delivering in a variety of roles is remarkable, and the fact that this delivery is of truly exceptional quality makes him worthy of high recognition,” a St John Ambulance spokesperson said.

“London Stadium, home to West Ham United, the Athletics World Cup and host to a number of massive summer concerts, comes under his jurisdiction and without his planning, leadership and readiness to spend long evenings at the stadium preparing for the fixtures and concerts, the events would not run as smoothly as they do.

“Having watched him in action, he has come to gain the respect and appreciation of those around him, but also the wider medical and safety teams at the stadium.”
